Not watched Spooks in a long time.
Watching the current season of Prison Break, and it's getting good again -
M I N O R
S P O I L E R
the creator has said that the current story arc will be resolved by end of 2nd season, and perhaps one or two of the current characters will feature in the 3rd season.
Make of that what you will
Any thoughts on Torchwood - not seen enough of them to make a decision one way or the other - Robin Hood is pretty reasonable saturday night fare though.

Not seen Torchwood as I don't watch Dr Who. Not seen Robin Hood despite cute eye candy. Finally watched Prime Suspect. Spoilers in case garbarek hasn't watched yet. S P O I L E R S Paul wrote ages ago: quote: Prime Suspect, on the other hand, is bowing out, and perhaps its about time. I know its always been about Tennison, but there was usually a good hook on which to hang her tail, in the form of an interesting investigation. I'm not sure they have that this time, so all we have is her slowly drinking herself to retirement, and visiting her dying dad.
The actual investigation was very pedestrian. Even if I'd not known I would have made the suspect quite early on. quote: And not a lot else. I liked the re-introduction of Bill, although it was kinda sad considering Tom Bell only recently died. But there is nothing new here, so maybe its best that this is the end for the character, and the show. Although I will still be watching tonight.
Also liked Tom Bell coming back. Nice symmetry. I felt that the performaces were fantastic irrespecrive of the storyline. it was perhaps overlong but better than Cracker. Re The State Within. Jason Issacs -was very good and Sharon Gless is always good (have they padded her out to make her look like Madeline Albright?). It was a good start. Liked the idea of the US just turning on us like that. Cause it would never happen...

I'm toying with getting the complete West Wing and Homicide box sets, but I need to get rid of season 1,2,3,4 and 5 of Homicide first.
U.S.A DVDs aren't going to sell well over here are they?

They should do okay on Ebay. You won't get your money back though, or anything close. I do like the look of that big box set thing, though. And the price is pretty tempting (although you will get customs on top, which could be a few quid if you get caught). Wouldn't think of getting TWW one. Don't know why but I don't think I could watch it all again, knowing how it all ended up. I guess I find it as disposable as ER, which is good to watch, but those Season 1 and 2 boxsets I have haven't even come out of the wrapper yet, and I doubt they ever will. There's too much new stuff around to worry too much about the watching old stuff, so you need to be selective. Having said that, I didn't think I'd get so into This Life again, but these nightly repeats have me hooked all over again. I guess it really was pretty good if its still fun and relevant 10 years on, and I guess it was pretty shocking in its day, and not a lot today goes much further than they went, in terms of language and sex, anyway. Am now officially looking forward to season 2, and the reunion thing. Paul, who saw Borat, and laughed and laughed. Although it wasn't as clever as I was hoping it would be. Some of the best bits were the scripted stuff, and the subliminal gags that were easily missed. There wasn't that much social commentary, where he got bigots to be biggotted on camera. There were a couple of frat guys that will be ashamed of themselves, and a guy at a rodeo who might as well have had a pointy white hat on, but beyond that, it was normal people he was generally using as stooges for his schtick. It was always funny, but it wasn't that clever, and if you are going to play a sexist, racist anti semite for laughs, you should probably have a bit more to say that he had here. Still funny, though. Some scenes were painfully funny.

The internet is an evil thing that distracts me from my work. So far today I have purchased two dresses, two pairs of shoes (same shoes just different colours), a cardi, two dvds (U2 cashcow collection and CH's Farewell) and the CH Farewell cd. And all of that's for me. Wait till I start on the Xmas pressies (hee hee, because my Hindu family do the whole Christmas works).
I too am thinking of getting the "megaset". It comes in a filing cabinet style box! Only downside is HMC&E stinging me for the tax. Maybe I will treat myself (again).
I've missed the This Life re-runs. Keep forgetting. Will definitely watch the reunion though.
Had a big trawl through a box of old videos I'd taped the other day – Oz, X-Files, first season of 24, Space Above and Beyond. Guess I should get rid, save space and actually buy the dvds. There's a new Complete X-Files box set out. No movie in it, flimsy cardboard box, crappy individual cases, and missing extras from the original sets, all for £140. I'm still tempted.

Saw Casino Royale. I'm not a bond afficionado - the world is not enough had me cringing, I liked Dalton in Licence to Kill (I'm told though he was better in the Living Daylights, but his seriousness might have been better for the saint. Daniel Craig conjures up this image of a ex-army brute that is self-assured to the point of arrogance (I'm guessing that was what Fleming was after with Bond), and for all the reports that he is 'ugly' - the battle-weariness of his face adds to the chracter, especially in the torture scene (the Jackass boys may try to recreate that if they do another movie). That said, The human elements of Bond's character certainly make you root for Bond rather than the cartoony carry-on stuff under Brosnan and Moore that was so distracting.
Someone at work asked me which female celebrity I'm most attracted to, and after Casino Royale -it's Eva Green. Her character shows what can happen when a young woman decides not to dress like a member of Girls Aloud, and the limited amount of flesh she does show just adds to your curiosity.
I was confused about the baddie(s). Le Chiffre was not the mastermind I was expecting, but there's room to develop the other bad guy for Bond 22.
Overall, I liked it (and I seem to be in a minority of liking the theme by chris cornell), and think Craig could do 2 more, before his character needs to be refined into a gentleman spy rather than an Andy McNabb style assassin.

Buzzcocks. Winehouse. WTF? Never seen a Bond film all the way through. Not my thing. I think Daniel Craig is quite attractive in a lived in look kind of way. garbarek wrote: quote: Someone at work asked me which female celebrity I'm most attracted to, and after Casino Royale -it's Eva Green. Shirtless [add name of male star of the day] is always better. <BWG>

love the tunes, but perhaps delusions of grandeur for Ms Winehouse? I'm enjoying the VH1 repeats currently, and the UKG2 repeats - Lamarr is so much better than Amstell (although it took three years for Lamarr to really get accustomed to the role) quote: Originally posted by snarkygirl: Shirtless [add name of male star of the day] is always better. <BWG>
I'm pleased to say that doesn't work for me, although Andrew Collins has questioned whether this may be the first g*y bond due to pumped up Daniel Craig. sticking with machismo - saw prison break last night and.... H U G E E N O R M O U S G I G A N T I C C O L O S S A L S P O I L E R S Interesting that Bellick is going down for Geary's murder, Kellerman is now in Aldo's position (though not voluntarily), and Aldo is where the company want him (frees him up to do the Closer i guess) Seen preview pictures for ep 13 before the mid-winter break, and Linc and Michael are in cuffs, but knowing Prison Break there has to be a final twist - they wouldn't release a still like that and let that be the lasting image before it returns in January surely?

Looks like i've got one more day before FTTW arrives, but someone's already put songs from the gig on YT to enjoy while i wait, also there's some clips of the interview paul did on his show hessie's shed, and i love that rendition of leaps and bounds. More music shows should have this warm relaxed feel of someone playing with their mates.

Who is the woman at the very end, just before John Wayne? http://www.channel4.com/music/ontv/U/U2/competition/It looks like Emma Thompson. But can't be. Then again given the remotely tangentially connected people they have there, it might just be. I'm thinking Martha Wainwright

Mine's here. V good review in The Times yesterday, the usual "you don't realise how much Neil Finn has burrowed into your sub-conscious until you hear this" thing.

Now watched the DVD - Love There goes god, and the commentary was interesting - shows the editors were morons that missed out on showing us Hessie's humour. Loved that exchange before Pineapple Head. Anyway, with Prison Break on hiatus now, I cna look forward to Shield in January, and I've found a nice preview site for Rome season 2 http://www.atia-vs-servilia.com/I'll say I'm on the side of servilia, but that is obviously a mistake. Oh and buzzcocks is completely rubbish now. I'll stick to the VH1 repeats.

Not that you care but I hate Christmas party dress shopping. One whole afternoon, twelve trillion shops, seven dresses tried on and nothing. The venue will be dark, I should just wear what I wore last year. Aaaaaggghhhhhh! garbarek wrote: quote: Now watched the DVD - Love There goes god, and the commentary was interesting - shows the editors were morons that missed out on showing us Hessie's humour. Not watched the dvd but have listened to the cd. Is the sound quality a bit ropey or is it my tinny headphones? On one track it seems to fade in and out of stereo.

I would just be gratefull that you don't have to be like Katie Price. Wear one thing once, and you can't wear it again after being papped. Or talentless. Surprisingly on topic, I was watching Kellerman PI the other day (settle down snarky), and I've probably had this discussion before, but the conscience and morality of Stivers concerning Luther's killing generated so much resentment for that character. Luther would never have been removed from the street legally, he always managed to escape a charge. Drastic measures had to be taken (much like the Pratt killing) to ensure resolution. No-one openly wept when Pratt got killed although they changed their minds by the time of the movie, but initially it was seen as justified albeit unlawful killing. Had Stivers not turned Lewis, would the situation have stayed the same? I also didn't like her 'cause she preferred Falzone. g, looking for something to occupy hs time, applied to Popmatters to be a CD reviewer - deadline was 1st December, it's now the 8th. I guess they haven't seen anyone's work they like. Oh well.

Might interest someone: http://music.guardian.co.uk/emusic/Apparently you get to keep the tracks after you cancel. Might be worth while if you can make your way though the dross. Neil Finn is on there along with The White Stripes and Cat Power. BTW, any of you use itunes and not get any free tracks via the cola cola promotion? If so, I have a bunch of codes spare. Email me.

Oh I am grateful. <BWG> quote: Surprisingly on topic, I was watching Kellerman PI the other day (settle down snarky)
Damn, now I can't concentrate on anything else. quote: Had Stivers not turned Lewis, would the situation have stayed the same?
I'm not sure Stivers turned him. This is going back some and I'll have to find the tape but I felt it was more that he feared it would come back on him when Stivers did spill, so he sided with her. I think Lewis lacked guts. quote: g, looking for something to occupy hs time, applied to Popmatters to be a CD reviewer - deadline was 1st December, it's now the 8th. Good luck with that. Am I the only person horrified by grown men prancing around and doing the same tunes they did 10 years ago, complete with bad choreography? (I speak of Take That)

Loved that David Simon interview - this is someone that the Daily Show SHOULD get as a guest.
Watched the Christmas Show of Studio 60 yesterday, and while it was good before, it really came together this week. I loved that opening sketch, the flaws with Christmas (some of which have been said on QI), and the blossoming relationships.
If you haven't got access to the eps, I'd strongly recommend watching it when it comes in the New Year.
Also saw Closer mid-season break, and was alright - seen better episodes - the movie star that had his hands and feet left in a 'dumpster' was my personal favourite.
g, will get the CD version of FTTW to see how it's been mixed and mastered.
