currently have a contract with O2 (through phones for you). My mobile phone is the Samsung D600. The contract is an 18 month one. It comes to an end in about November. However, I want to upgrage my phone to the Samsung G600 and am not willing to wait that long.
If I went into the 02/Phone's4u (which one?) store and told them this, what do you think they would suggest?
Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Children, children, this is channel 4, not ebay!!

In answer to the original question, just in case he comes back again........

My own 18month contract with O2 runs out in April, and I wanted to upgrade. I was told to contact them again in a month`s time, ie with about a month to go on my contract. So, that suggests you will not be able to upgrade 9 months early.

However, no harm in contacting O2 themselves, and having a chat with them. It`s probably no good talking to the shop itself, as the contract is with O2 even though you got the phone elsewhere. I wouldn`t even chat with the staff at an O2 shop either. They don`t have the authority to overide the contract conditions.

Just as a piece of further info. My daughter is with Vodaphone, when she wanted to upgrade early, they were prepared to let her, but it would not have been a free upgrade, the price they quoted was expensive, so she waited the 6months that her contract was still to run, and got the phone for free. Not quite sure if O2 would have a similar policy in place.

I work for Vodafone, but i have the understanding all the networks work roughly the same way and no they wouldnt let you upgrade early just because you wanted too. your signed in for an 18 month contract and that contract is binding. With Vodafone you can upgrade 2 months before your contract ends but not before.

I dont think you have a chance of upgrading now unfortunatly.

I used to work for Orange, (washes mouth out and spits)You can upgrade with them prior to your contract term being up, but there is a charge according to the phone you wish to upgrade to. It is correct that you are bound to the 18 month contract but that is for the service. When you come to upgrade your phone usually you sign up for another 18 month contract, not all the phones are free of charge on the upgrade so in the event that you want one which is not a FOC upgraded phone they will tell you how much the phone you want will be. Prior to your upgrade date this is usually quite expensive even for those that on reaching upgrade date become FOC. If you don't want to wait for a new phone you can purchase a new phone and providing it is unlocked for the service provider you are with there is nothing stopping you putting your SIM into that phone. Speak to the people at Carphone Warehouse, (No I do not work for them or have any allegiance to them, nor am I on commission) I found them to be the most well trained and knowledgeable regarding phones and networks. Hope this helps

BTW, if you leave the service provider before the end of the contract you will have to pay the contract to its end which could be quite costly.

my mobile contract is £25 a month.

As i do not go over my free entitlement, i do not pay extra. except when i go on holiday and phone home from abroad.

din`t know about anyone else, but I pay a fixed rate for my house phone, which allows me to make unlimited calls to landlines per month. S i only use my house phone to call landline numbers. Any other calls i do on my mobile.

When my contract runs out, i will moving onto 02`s "Simplicity" sim thingy. I can get the same number of minutes and texts as I do a the moment, but pay a tenner less a month. Plus I get to keep my phone number.

so why do you want to change??? what is wrong with the phone you already have??? surely a phone is a phone so unless its not working properly I dont see the point in changing it

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

A person after my own heart!!

I said that to my kids for years.

But even I finally caved in and upgraded from my beloved Nokia 3210. Smile Still use it as an alarm clock though, as my new phone`s alarm doesn`t wake me up.
