basically im doing research for my media exam on this area of media concerning the relationship between children and the media and some helpful answers would be greatly appreciated.
Do you believe TV toy adverts target children aggressively?
if so how and why do you think the producers/ directors etc do this?for example is it the editing techniques?the language used?
how do your children react to the tv when they see toy adverts on television?
I believe that some kids programmes are purely 30 minute adverts for that product.

I beleive that children are easily influenced by what they see on TV and the adverts for toys etc are made to appear far more exciting, interesting etc than they often really are.

No, not product placement.
I`m referring to the actual kids programme that is nothing more than an advert in itself.

I think it's remained unchanged since the merchandise boom after Star Wars. Capitalising on breaks in-between childrens' programmes. Nothing particularly aggressive unless you count the fact adverts are louder than the programmes they fit into.
I'm not sure if aggressively is the right word. I do think adverts for children are exciting, to get children excited about the product being advertised, to want it.
I think they're bright, colourful, direct, to the point, loud and so maybe in that way they're aggressive, but maybe a better word is 'full on'!
I know when I'm with my nephews and an advert comes on thats directed towards them, they will stop what they're doing and give the tv they're full attention so, the adverts work.
I think there's a difference, sometimes, in adverts for boys toys and girls toys. There was one I was seeing ALL the time recently for a little girl's toy, and it had cute little girls in it, they were singing, they all looked very pretty and happy that they had this toy. If little girls see how they look, they may want this toy because of that, so I think its clever, and devious, advertising.
Whereas for boys, its more action packed, exciting, powerful.
So I think there's a definite difference between how the adverts for the different genders come across and I think it works.

Can't really add anymore than what's been said. I used to be quite badly influenced by TV advertising back in my yoof (1980s). Acquired a lot of Trans Formers and Go Bots. Found out years later that the 20 minute animated cartoons (and this goes for MASK and He Man as well) were in fact 'feature length advertisements'.
Also, children are very competitive and its pester power all the way.
I think back then, I deserved to have the work 'sucker' tattooed to my forehead. I'm anti-consumerist these days and I'm very careful about what I spend.
