we all go on about the holocaust, but it is believed that over 300,000 people have lost thier lives in Sudan. why doesn't anyone go on about the sudanese?
I dont know much about the conflict in sudan but the Holocaust was atrocious, The lengths that the Nazis went to exterminate the Jews. Not only were they rounded up and put into concentration camps but a lot of todays genetics knowledge and research comes from the experiments that hitler was performing on the Jews.

Sorry Pseu, I have to admit I too am ignorant of the problems in the Sudan. Perhaps we are still a little like the world was during the Holocaust, semi aware of things happening on the perimeters of our lives but too involved in our own lives to ask too many questions. We are self centred but the media has it's part to play and they are only too keen to raise awareness of racial hatred in the Big Brother house but not that interested in raising awareness of more real and serious issues. I suppose they think that it won't sell papers. I do like a bit of seriousness on the forums but I usually come on here for a little light relief. I apologise if I offend anybody with this post. Perhaps a letter to your local press or even the nationals might evoke something to raise awareness, an open letter to the press can sometimes have a thought provoking effect. At least you have provoked some thought in 2 forum members so well done you.

make that three, but what do you think we should do about it. we are dammed if we do and dammed if we dont, thats what they say. we could make things better but what if we make them worse we,ve been down that road before and look whats happened. we are a small nation with big problems why mess around with others when we dont get the back at the 11 hour.i,m no expert but it seems to me we can get too involved when we,ve got so much going on here.but that does,nt mean i dont feel for them seeing all those kids suffering breaks my heart.
If britain could get involved as meerly peace keepers then I'd be all for it but monkey see monkey do and the Americans would also be there and the Americans just seem to escalate(SP?) problems of late, its their shoot first, shoot again, shoot some more and then when everyone is dead try and ask a question attitude. Britain do actually have a good record as peace keepers when they have been on their own but that hasnt happened for a long time because we are however much I hate to admit it in Americas pockets at the minute. So although I don't know too much about the conflict in question they are far better on their own. I mean fair enough in my opinion Democracy is the best form of government even though one doesnt really exist but who are we to impose our beleifs on any other country like Iraq for instance and that is all that is going to happen wherever we or the Americans get involved.
I know that all seems like waffle but I have had no sleep yet lol

how can we go in as pease keepers when they dont want us there,in the past we have tried to help but gone about it wrong. but is there a right way to help a people who dont want our help, you have to target the people who cause the problem. but like in iraq that did,nt go right, our lads and girls put their lives on the line thinking they would help and now they are paying the price. when are they going to bring them home to their loved ones who need them.
thanks for your post ldk, and disco. youre absolutley right, how can you know whats going on when its simply not reported. to be honest i had forgotten about Sudan until i got my amnesty int newsletter the other day. unfortunatly we are often at the mercy of the media when it comes to what we hear. its disgraceful.

What do you mean?
History has taught us one thing and it is that history is written by the victors, and as Britain or the states seem to have no interest in sudan so neither do our media then we will probably never learn the truth of the situation!

yes discos right. and as for not going in because no-one wants us, the sudan situation is very different to that of iraq, which is what i assume youre talking about. i would imagine that the thousands sitting in refugee camps waiting to die would very much like us there. btw if anyone is interested in whats going on (and so make an informed comment) try the amnesty international website.
good news in the press today for those of you who happen to give a stuff, the sudanese ministers responsible for overseeing the atrocities in Darfur to be charged at the international criminal court for crimes against humanity. although this doesnt changed what happened, it will put additional pressure on sudan to sort the situation out. plus the b******s get whats coming to them
over 3 million died in the holocaust not comparing or want reaction just saying is all and over 1 million russian soldiers!
an earthquake in pakistan can kill 400 make two hundred thousand homeless you get 1o minutes on the news then nobody cares..as long as it doesn't effect people personally, society in general turn a blind eye! which is a shame!
