I have to say though, that even those posters on that site who have managed to buy the freesat systems have not posted as to what they think of the choice of programming.
Unless I haven`t managed to find those threads yet.

They removed my last post - the deities are really getting annoying!!!
Vampy - I put a link in specially for you - I thought it would amuse you (and all other forummers who, like me, stay up late into the night getting het up about silly little things!!!). I thought the mods would at least understand and applaud such a self-reflective posting... Oh well.

I got the link that was removed on the previous page.
Did you post another on this page? (apart from the little cartoon mentioned in you post directly above this one).
Drat!! doncha just HATE it when we`re treated like naughty school kids, instead of the adults we had to say we were when we registered with the forums.
Why can`t the MODS understand that C4`s policy that "Channel 4 is not responsible for the content of 3rd party sites" means that links are permitted.
If they are really bothered about underage people following unsuitable links (which your one was not, Lucibee), then they should have a policy in place whereby you have to register before you can even access the message boards.
grrrrr ARGH!!

Nope, just xkcd, join freesat, and emma scott's interview.
Anyway - back to the question in hand...
I'm going to experience "Freesat from Sky" at the end of the month (so that I don't have to go and buy a new box), so I'll let you know how it goes.
Fortunately, the Olympics and Wimbledon are on BBC, and we get our movies from Amazon/LoveFilm. (our nearest cinema of more than one screen is more than 50 miles away!).
I have Sky atm but thinking i mite get a freesat box for my bedroom. It will work out cheaper to buy a HD Box and instalation rather than a second sky subscription. Hope this really hits sky, they have been overcharging for rubbish tele for years and been getting away with it.

How do you work that out?
I know what a second sky sbscription is as I have one.
But what is the cost of buying and installing freesat? How will you get around the bylaws of most local councils that forbid having more than one satelite dish installed on each property?

Well if a second Sky Sub costs me an extra £10 per month and £100 for the second box, as Sky have told me, then getting an HD Box, (£143.99 from Dixons with discount code) and installation about £80 from my local electrician, im gonna be saving quite a bit. I live in a block of flats with Sky already provided, one dish per block, and shouldn't be a problem getting an individual dish put up.

.
Oh, yes, my apols. I upgraded my main sky box, and instead of taking the old box away, they simply installed it in another room, free of charge.

I think you can just replace the receiver bit of the dish with one that has up to four sockets for the cabling down to the box. Not sure if that really means you can have up to four boxes going all at once, but it means you don't need any more than one dish.
I now have it - haven't noticed much of a difference yet. All the expected channels have gone - but that's fine coz it's FREE!!!!! And i still have Channels 4 and Five.
Channel 4 are clearly a bit twitchy about it all, and the mods deleted my link to the bit on the Joinfreesat forum that discusses Channel 4's deal with Sky.
Besides sky 1 & 2, what other channels have gone? Do they still show up on the "programme guide" button.
If you wanted to, are you still able to buy a film off the Box Office channels?
Because I`ve had sky right from it`s first broadcasting (when it was still subscription free), I`ve absolutley know idea what are the free channels and what are the subscription channels.

But do have: All BBC chs, all ITV chs, all Channel 4 chs (inc Film4), all Five chs. Also all Zone chs, Propeller, Performance, ChartShowTV, various kiddy channels. Also Arsenal TV (for some reason)! Various info, community, religious, travel, shopping and news channels. Some extra film channels too...
I don't think I can book sky box office without a contract - but we get all our films from LoveFilm/Amazon anyway, coz it's way cheaper.
The only things I'll really miss are the excellent UKTV channels - but I'm hoping they will come on board Freesat at some point - and then I'll switch!
However, if you get a broad-spectrum box (ie, Humax Foxsat), and set it up yourself aligned to Eurobird satellite (independly of Freesat etc), apparently you can receive hundreds of channels from all over Europe. (See Digital Spy for details)

Ahhh yes... the other Satelites up there.
There was a time, many years ago when I used to own a multi satelite dish, in that I could steer my dish around to pick up any and all satelites up there. A Uniden system. Cost a small fotune to buys and install! A great game was had at 11:30 at night as the drunks staggered home from wthe local pub - press a button to move the dish and laugh as the drunks were scared out of their wits as the dish whirred it`s way to facing the next satelite in the sky. (they used to relieve themselves against the bushes at the end of the front garden. They stopped doing THAT after a few scares from the noise of the dish moving!)
Unfortunatly the weather got the better of the system in the end, and both my contents insurer and my buildings insurer said their policies didn`t cover it. And I didn`t have 1500 to buy another motorised system.
By which time, the Astra satelite became more known as BSkyB, and they were offering free equipment and installation (and no subscription in those days either)............. no contest really.
annnnyyyyywwwaaaaayyyyyyy!
You still get Discovery, Animal Planet, National Geographic?? There are a couple more, but those are the main documentary channels I watch.

Unfortunately not - but fortunately most of the really good series are available on DVD - which still works out cheaper for a boxed set than subscribing - and i get to choose when i watch them!
(btw - the arsenal tv thing was a myth)
I do wish that 4oD would stop nicking my bandwidth though...
I could maybe live without sky 1 and 2, but without those documentary channels, and the UKTv channels as well, that`s virtually all the best channels.
ack....
**mutters naughty swear words under breath**

Makes you wonder what on earth we all got up to before satellite TV!!!
Not a lot!!
My kids were very young before I had satelite, so I wasn`t out living it up every night. No internet existed at that time. I don`t even think I had a computer of any description (my first pc was a Commodore 64!!). Sudoku wasn`t around, and there weren`t even any games consoles!!
Ahh.... but there WERE fanclubs with newsletters, and lots and lots of fanzines. Oh and real proper penpals!

Got freesat last week and just had to buy a satellite cable, becouse there is satelite connection. Sky is too exspensive for us and we are glad of the extra channels. Have not got hd as would need a hd tv to get a good picture, but i am amazed at the the clear picture we have, it's great. Oh and welcome meh, this is my first post on the forum.
