Wondering if anyone can help me here.

I always love the hair on the show but it does look expensive so trying to do the best I can do, locally.

My hair has a natural curl/wave, which I straighten (hairdryer, large curlers etc) and it's naturally very dry (I have to use tons of moisturising treatments etc) - my hair colour used to be blonde as a kid, went dark blonde, and has now gone a light brown with the odd grey (eeeeek!) - I'm 34. I'm quite fair (warm undertones) with green eyes.

Everyone tells me I should go blonder but I just think this will dry my hair out even more and accentuate the frizz so I'm tempted to go a bit darker (I love Charlotte Church's hair colour - like a mid warm brown).

What do you think?

I do feel a blonde at heart, but my hair feels dry after a couple of days of washing it (it gets dry rather than greasy!) and I just feel like 'Mrs Mouse' at the moment! lol.

Any thoughts?

Thank you xxx

Ask Philippe on this board, he does the hair on the show. He comes here a few times a week and knows his hair.

Oval face shapes - the oval face shape is considered to be a face shape that can wear any type of style or hair. This includes bangs which can be worn in just about any style. Of course bangs for oval face shapes should be chosen with an eye for hair type, texture, length and condition.

Round face shapes - the most flattering bang styles tends to be built upon long softly layered or feathered bangs (if your hair texture, type and condition support feathering) that gently hug the cheeks areas to minimize round cheeks. When skillfully constructed, bangs can add beautiful contour to round fact shaped features. Great bands can instantly chisel into the cheekbones and help them pop.

Long face shapes - blunt brow hugging bangs that softly drape over the forehead will help to give the impression of a more oval-shaped face. The oval look can be strengthened by opting for long or graduated layers that softly caress the sides of the face.

Square face shapes - consider side-swept bangs that gently curve or taper inwards towards the jaw to soften pronounced square facial lines. When well cut, side swept bangs can also help soften all the angles of the face.

Heart face shapes - depending on the ultimate goal, bangs can be selected to either minimize the general wideness of the heart shaped face or help to balance the generally prominent chin. A side swept feathered or texturized bang style can also be another great option.

A heart shaped face can also usually carry off full bangs cut straight across the face. Long or short, full bangs can look really great for a heart shape.

Triangular face shapes - wider bangs that are feathered, wispy or texturized can help to balance the face and create more of an oval shape.

A slight wispy fringe will cover and conceal a wide forehead. It will also bring it into a better proportion with a wide chin. Avoid the flat, pageboy fringes. These can level out fullness and height.

I hope this might help isobel, I stumbled on a wonder product for dry hair a few years ago, and its worked so well for everyone I've surgested it too it might do the magic for you tooSmile
Its "Henna Treatment Wax" which i buy from "Savers" for arround 99p a tub.
It WON'T colour your hair, but it is a fantastic conditioner for dry hair, it looks like a pale pink thick conditioner and its best if you shampoo as usual and then put loads on ( the tub is very large!) wrap a towel round and leave on for 20 mins on the first aplication, then rinse off, your hair will feel amazingly soft right from the first aplication.
I discoverd it as I worked in a hairdressing salon and it was the product they used in their very expensive "Conditioning treatment" service!, I used to have to nip out to "Savers" when ever they were running low on stock!!!

Thanks for your replies Smile

Wow - that Hennna stuff sounds amazing Wideawake! I will definitely give that a go - and even better that it's cheap!

I've now decided I love Amanda Holden's hair on (Britain's Got Talent) - like a dark blonde/mid brown but not too dark.

Thanks again! xxx

Hi Isaobel.
I'm not sure if I can post a link so try googleing "Amanda Holden britains Got tallent Official web site", as they have up to date photo's of all the judges and Amandas pic is a recent one and shows her hair colour well, remember under the studio lights it may apear a little lighter than it actually is, and she was originally a lighter blonde so that also afects the final result, at a guess I'd put the colour at arround a L'oreal 7 (sold under the name "Rimini") but thats just a sort of educated guess....in the web site pic it looks a bit darker, so I mentioned it as a guide only , hope this helps Smile

Hi Wideawake,

Thanks for your help. I wish I could print a copy from the internet as there's loads of good ones on there - but I don't have a colour printer - such a pain! I've been scouring magazines instead but haven't found a good one yet.
Will keep searching.
I've seen the colour 'Rimini' you mention and yes, it looks pretty similar doesn't it (although I'm not expert).
I may just have to make sure the colorist I see watches the show! haha!
xx

Your most welcome isobel ( I managed to spell your name properly this time Smile opps)
you know last night I was watching and I started to think her hair was a bit darker than the one I'd surgested, lol, really the secret to getting hair colour that suits you is to work with your skin tones, a good colourist will take all that into account when adviseing on colour, but good colourists tend to be at the more expensive salons, (But there is always a chance you might find a gem! tucked away at a small local salon, so don't loose hope Smile )
Often local collages which run Hair dressing NVQ's are crying out for customers for hair services for the students to practise on, and they are all supervised by the tutors, if you book in towards the end of the collage year the students are often superb, and you can always try them out for a conditioning treatment first before comiting to a full cut/and or Colour service, the prices are always very low as its only to cover costs of products etc.
Also for advice on skin tones, try asking the girls behind the counters at one of those deptment store make up counters, often the big brand names spend a lot of time training there staff in make up and beauty, I have a friend who works for one, and she often says she wished more people would ask her about make up colours etc as she spent ages training, and she's not into the "Hard sell" a lot of them will load you up with free samples and good advice about skin tones and all that, ( if you get one that isn't free with the advice then try another counter, the make up and beauty industry is big buissness and the potential customer should feel good at all times Smile )

Hope this is some help Smile

That's so helpful! Thank you so much xx

I think they say to check out the colorists own hair and if you like it, then that's a good sign (is that right? lol).

I know a bit about my skin tone - it's quite pale but warm toned - never goes really dark on holiday, more golden toned - green eyes too so I'm definitely on the warm side.

I will definitely be asking at a good beauty counter for advice on colours etc - I had no idea they are dying to be asked! I don't like to be a pain whenever I go out so I tend to keep my questions brief! lol. Little did I know I'm doing the wrong thing!

Yes, I also thought her hair looked darker last night - I wonder if it's filmed out of sequence and maybe the semi permanent she's using is just faded a bit?

Wish I could ask her!!!!!! haha.

Thanks again xxx
