Magnolia has a great opening sequence. I wasn't that keen on the rest of the film, but the opening two or three minutes were great.

I know I'm getting a bit repetitive with my favourite things in all these polls, but as ever, I have to mention Fight Club. You have to love that credits sequence, and the stark opening after that is fantastic.

"That's why he's the king...And you're a schmuck!"

I really like the opening scene of Donnie Darko, where he wakes up on that beautiful mountain top.

I liked the opening of Fight Club too - it really makes you sit up and give the film your full attention.

Monsters Inc. I love the opening to that film. I really dont know why but i think its great.

Rocky Horror Picture Show. The whole lips are just great.

Chicago. All That Jazz just gave it the perfect opening.

Phoebe: You don't have to put a good spin on everything.
Parker: I'm sorry that's who I am. I'm a positive person.
Phoebe: No! I am a positive person. You are like Santa Clause on Prozac, at Disneyland, getting laid!

The opening of Star Wars (1977).

Though Mr. Lucas re-shot it for an Imax screen, which I saw in Bradford...I think the screen dimensions are about 90 foot x 70 foot...though I am probably way out. Even more impressive than the cinema version.

I love the beginning of 'Betty Blue' (I am a little biased...)..but it is very rude!

Also love the beginning of 'Manhatten'..cos I love 'Rhapsody in Blue'which is played over the black and white backdrop of New York.

Once Upon A Time In The West - the longest opening credits of all.

Star Wars - its just classic really isn't it.

has to be trainspotting. the iggy pop soundtrack makes it seem really energetic, and ewan mcgregors opening speech as they run away from the security staff is classic. also the bittersweet tone of the film is immediatly established.

Sexy Beast's opening makes me laugh. Hard man in unfeesibly small trunks, lying on a sunbed, brown as leather when suddenly a big rock nearly knocks his head off and instead destroys his pool. All to the song "Down on the beaches." Marvellous!

Lots of people have already Star Wars, but I'll say it too.

Also:

The opening cityscape shot in "Blade Runner"

Deserted London in "28 Days Later"

Not spectacular but still good - Rufus Sewell waking up in the hotel room in Dark City

"For mash get Smash."
