For me it has to be Blue Velvet - the music, the picture perfect town and the way the camera descends, and that white picket fence against that blue sky...I could go on! The beetles - so many beetles!

saving private ryan. that opening sequence is fantastic.

I see in your eyes, the same fear that would take the heart of me!

But it is not this day!

I saw Punch Drunk Love the other day, that film has a pretty interesting first few minutes. Sorry if you haven't seen it, but what's that car flipping down the street got to do with anything?

What about the opening sequence in 'Swordfish'? All that slo-mo explosion action just blew me away. Far and away the only decent thing about that movie, with perhaps the exception of Halle berry's norks.

HB's bits weren't all that and she was so selfconcious you couldn't pay for it.

Now she looked far more comfortable with Billy Bob in Monster's Ball!

Some great movies mentioned. De Niro's slow dancing silhouette in Raging Bull is my favourite.

Oh yeah, that's a must. The music that they play over the opening sequence too, that music always sends shivers down my spine.

I'd never seen this film so when I saw it going for a couple of quid in the Jan sales I bought it - simply because I'd heard about this fantastic opening scene when the film first came out.

Didn't do a thing for me!

Nothing more to say about it really, maybe if I'd managed to get past the opening scene/sequence then I'd have more to say! The fact that I wasn't able to get past the opening scene/sequence though probably speaks volumes!

I agree with you on that one.

On of my favorites is Dario Argento's The Stendahl Syndrome, with Asia Argento walking through the museum. No dialogue at at all but only another amazing score from Ennio Morricone which leads her to hallucinate from the power of all the art work surrounding her.

Not spectacular but the long opening tracking shot in The Player is great. Also the pre-credit sequence in Magnolia is fab.

Th opening sequence of Goldeneye, with Brosnan jumping off that dam is pretty cool.

The opening act of Scream. It pretty much demands your attention, that's how you open a movie.
