Anyone else having this problem ??

This may be for a variety of reasons, Fishy Pete...

You can't use certain symbols (bugger!)

You can't cut and paste into the box (BUGGER!)

You can't exceed the 4000 character mark (arse!)

and the most common reason of all...

You can't post when the servers at 4Laughs are having a hissy fit (at least once or twice a day)


There are those that also believe the uploading mechanism is actually sentient and knows how to mess with your head and get you really annoyed...it annoys me REALLY easily (you may see from previous posts that I am a grumpy arse)

Yes, the most likely reasons for difficulties are that it's too long or the site was having temporary problems...

If you're typing them in Word first, you really don't want to go over two pages if you can help it - depending how you're laying it out, of course... You can't really go by the character counter in there, either, as it counts them differently... But two pages/two and a half, or there abouts, is really the maximum the submission box will take... You should be able to see the little counter in the top right corner that starts at 4000 - if it's down to 0, that's fine, but if it's below that by the time you're done typing your piece, it won't go through... So you'll need to trim some, to get the counter back to 0 or above...

If it's a temporary fault, there's nothing you can do except log out and come back another time to try again... There is a huge ammount of traffic on the site now, and people trying to submit at the same time, so errors are unavoidable... But persevere and it should get there eventually - the comp will be open a couple of weeks yet, so there's plenty of time...

try cutting and pasting from Notepad...however, the format of your text (fonts, margins, tabs etc) can sometimes mess with the upload form...it's sometimes safer to type it in - painful, especially when it still refuses you!

There's recognition errors on punctuation that screws up the word count when pasting, but letters are recognised without fault.

If you type out the sketch in word or wordpad without using any punctuation or symbols you can cut and paste without problems then add the punctuation later.

Once I've written a sketch in word I use the find and replace feature to replace all punctuation and symbols with a capital X, that way it's easier to spot where the missing punctuations go once you've cut and paste.

It's a hassle I know, but when working on longer scripts it's definitely easier than a complete re-write.
