As well as the "one minute" slots I suggest you also have "two minute" slots! Smile

Im sure Junkmales will think of something... as for animation I'm out... I really wouldnt know where to start or whether to even bother, but if channel4 are really looking at all areas of comedy I do understand.

Good luck everyone!

Not sure what I can do animation-wise considering I've never done it before. Does anyone have Terry Gilliams number? Moon

I'd never tried animation myself, until a few weeks ago - but I'd always wanted to... And I was incredibly grateful that coming on here gave me the impetus to finally get down to it.

It's not as tricky as it appears, as once you've storyboarded everything and worked out what your 'master shots' are going to be, you can then manipulate and re-use them several times as you cut together the finished piece.

I'm pretty much learning as I go - you find different ways to do things all the time. But it's great fun experimenting... Smile

Mmm, but if you can't draw or model (not in the Kate Moss sense of the word obviously) you haven't got anything to work with. Confused

It's not much of a collective if only one entry gets used methinks.

Sabriel I agree...

I THOUGHT we were having something like a 30 minute radio show on 4Radio with a whole group of winners in it... how silly of me, doh!

A lot of us (global we) have put a whole load of work into this and 4laughs are going to use ONE one-minute piece?

No wonder they could offer £50 a minute! They're only buying a minute!

Sorry, I think it should have been made clear up front that it was one piece.

It's a good job JAX2 is resting or he'd have a fit Wink !!!

smacks of 'lip service' to the new writers...let's get in the ones we use (and pay) all the time to do the rest of the show.

Hmmm...Edinburgh looks less and less likely

The comp was a good comp. One winner gets on 4Radio...Great! Top Five get feedback on their work from 4Radio...Great! Smile

But where is the "Collective"... Confused

Perhaps, the 4Laughs team were expecting more submissions of a professional standard that could go straight to air - but didn't get them.

We're all amateurs working at home with amateur equipment (excluding waiting4death) - would you want to put something, that although amusing, sounds like it was recorded on a 1973 vintage tape deck on air?

Unless they chose a winner and then he/she has the opportunity to re-record the sketch on pro-equipment at 4Radios base of ops or somewhere related - which would be a nice prize in itself.

Despite its maulings, the Shoot The Writers people gave The Slagg Brothers their first break and got us minor exposure at a time when we were low and thinking of giving up, so despite the show's budget being smaller than Prince's humility, I will always say a big thank you to the people behind it. I won't defend the show but all power to Colin Bennett et al.

If you read the collective it does intimate at more than one clip being used.

"the best celebrity lifestyles shows will appear in a specially commissioned show on 4Radio in April."

Comedy is - of necessity - more about disappointment than writing.

It's also about farts and willies!

Seriously though...it can't simply be 'there isn't enough quality'...when they launched the 'collective' a few weeks ago, they had seen what the last 8/9 months had produced...if quality was an issue, then the brief would have been much clearer on the 'one winner' side of things.

The picks of the day, and editor's choices a reflecting that audio has had a massive influx of considerable talent in the last few weeks as well, so interest in the site and what it has to offer is really high. It seems a shame that all the energy and ability is a seething mass with no real outlet or indeed channelling by 4laughs.

The feedback is sporadic, and there have been no workshops offered.

Come on Chris & Davina give us a sign...in what direction is this all going? Who shall we follow?

FOLLOW THE HOLY SHOE!

I think what you say may be correct.

I personally think that the JM's should work towards producing audio that is good enough technically to go straight to air. Then it's just a question of getting the script/performance up to standard.

To be honest, it's the same for music... there is just no point producing rough quality music demos anymore...they need to be done to professional studio quality from day one.

Some of the 'waiting4death' stuff was impressive partly because of the production standard employed. It would be much less impressive if it had been produced on that 1973 tape recorder you mention. Smile

Mmm, I can understand stuff not being of good enough quality to air, but I'm sure no-one at 4laughs expected us all to suddenly be expert technobods!

I thought this site was about how funny stuff is, not production quality. Not much of a level playing field if only high-spec subs are considered.

It's only speculation Loop... Smile

Maybe it's nothing to do with it in this case.

But showing your work in the best possible light is always worth it I believe. Well, I've learnt that the hard way I reckon... Wink
