My head is spinning with this bleeding kitchen! Am now not sure of anything - I thought I'd decided to go for a 665mm deep worktop (from Screwfix) to go over the 600mm units from Ikea, and now I'm thinking that's too much of an overhang and it'll look daft. Help!

Worktop will be L shaped, approx 2 metres each way, if that makes a difference.

Aren't you better sticking with Ikea ones?

Well, I haven't seen them in the flesh yet but in the catalogue they look a bit cheap (which, of course, they are!). Have you got one beecher?

My Sister has an Ikea kitchen, including worktops, and they look fine.

Gulp, There is no problem in using extra deep worktops I do it most of the time on my jobs and all you need to do is scribe down the depth of the worktop to what ever overhang you want.
If your walls are reasonably straight you can rip down the worktop on a proffesional table saw or rip saw with guide, otherwise its a steady hand and good eye and a jigsaw - at least 700watt. Other option hire a joiner to do your tops
