Hi all!
I hope ive posted this in the right place...

I need some advice. Ive got some fitted wardrobes in our bedroom that were once white, but are now a near custard colour thanks to our previous home owner being a smoker!
Im thinking of painting these wardrobes (MDF type wood I think) either white, or nearly white.

My real question is has any of you tried doing this? I am unsure which type of paint to use etc. I would really hate to see brush strokes in the finished product!!

Any advice is welcome!

If they are MDF or wood you can use any type of paint designed for wooden surfaces. If they are melamine you will need a special melamine paint to get a decent and durable finish but this is readily available from DIY emporia. All can be applied with a small foam roller if you don't want to see any brushstrokes.

Thanks susiecam, they appear just to be wood, - not melamine, so thats good!

You could apply a coat of ESP (easy surface primer)first - can get it from most good DIY stores, and some rubbish ones!!!
Then you can paint it with whatever you want. Definately use a foam roller like susiecam says - they are great.

Painting looks awful. The only way to do it passably is to use a compressor and spray them.

I quite like painted wood & have never used a compressor. Don't try using one coat though 'cos its rubbish coverage.
I would clean down with sugar soap 1st too being as its so smoked on - get it from wilko or DIY store.
