Hello, we are about to start converting our loft. One of our neighbours has already converted theirs and so one of our party walls is already extended to accomodate the mansard. According to the Party Wall Act (11 (11)) "the adjoining owner shall pay a due proportion of the expenses incured by the building owner". Can anyone provide me with information on what they have paid their neighbours in similar circumstance. Part of the problem, is that our neighbours don't have satisfactory evidence of what they paid to have the wall built. We currently have a good relationship with the neighbours and don't want to affect this, but also, we are working to a budget.
Am i reading this right - if my neighbour has a loft conversion, i would be expected to pay (or contribute) for work to the party wall! Or is it because they've already had work done!
They have already converted their loft and need to extend the wall to accomodate this. We are now converting and don't need to rebuild the wall but should pay towards the cost of the wall they built.
