It never rains but it pours! House on market, and then terminal sofa event happens last night! Can't try and sell house without a sofa in it(!) but have no money to buy lovley new sofa (spent on decorating and such like already!)
Aside from Ebay (too pot luck for urgent requirements) and Ikea (we have to drive quite a way to get to one) am I missing a great place to get a good value sofa fast?

Why not? I can understand struggling to sell a house without a roof, or perhaps a kitchen, but never a sofa. A sofa is an item that the seller takes with them, so only an idiot buyer would be bothered by a house without one.

True.
What about those websites where people give away free stuff? All you have to do is collect.
Try the local papers, small ads in post office / local supermarket window (?), and if yu have a branch of Emmaus or Salvation Army nearby, try there. People are always getting rid of good stuff to charity furniture shops.
There's nothing in Argos under £179, which is cheap for a sofa, but quite an expense for a sofa you don't actually want (though I did spot a really nice leather one for £299 which I'm tempted by!).

Thanks for all advice. Took comments on classifieds to heart, but as an internet friendly type of gal, managed to find identical sofa to one just ruined for £50 on pre-loved.co.uk and only just up the road from my work! Am picking up in next couple of days, so panic over!
Thanks for all your help!

Hoorary for second-hand stuff! Not only is it a tenth of the original cost, but you get that glowing smugness of having been eco-friendly in your shopping choices...
