If it was me, I would contact Planning tomorrow morning and speak to the case officer who is dealing with the scheme and ask them to clarify the situation regarding the bay. I think it would be more likely that the developer has instigated this particular alteration, for whatever reason (probably financial) and that it is them who have contacted Planning to request the omission of the bay not the other way around
Armed with this information, will enable you to agree a satisfactory resolution with the developer
