My new sofa has arrived and will not fit in through the lounge door. The delivery people suggested that I take off the door frame and then put it on again in order to fit the sofa through the door.
Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? Is it very difficult and am I likely to have to do a lot of work to get the frame back on?
It all depends really. You'll have to take the architrave off (that's the surround). It is usually nailed on.
From there you should be able to see where the frame fixing points are. If it's new it is probably screw and rawl-plug. If it is old it will be some large flat nails (whose name I've forgotten) which are hammered into slivers of wood.
Either way it can be rather messy trying to get to the fixings and removing them.
So just take the architrave off first and have a look.
First thing to remove is the door, then if this isn’t quite enough you could remove the doorstops (the bits set inside the frame), and finally, if you really want the sofa and it won’t fit in any other way (window?) then remove the architrave and jambs. But very messy and you might have to make good the decorating.
