We are just about to have a double shower built to replace the awkward bath (it is an odd bathroom shape) I am worried that by removing the bath that we could in future put off a whole market of young famillies. We are re-doing the whole bathroom and putting in a massive double shower so it will look amazing - but what does everyone think?
It we were to get a bath it would be tiny - 120cm long!!!! Is it better to have a squashed bath or a massive roomy shower!!!!

As I've said before on this forum - you can't shower a 3 year old!
Then again, how far ahead are you planning?
In 7-10 years the suite may look tired & need replacing anyway so I would say go for what YOU want, then worry about sellability when the time comes.

Agree with Jim, but I would add, it very much depends on the property. If it's a flat, then I'd say go ahead with the shower as families are not the main market anyway.

Something else that I've seen before, is a double shower unit which is deisgned so that it can also be used as a bath with the screen shut. Might be worth investigating?

Agree, agree - alot depends on personal preference though and whether you're intending selling on soon. Personally, I/we could live without a bath and just have a shower (there are just the two of us in the house now) - but had we decided to ditch the bath and only have a shower when we revamped the bathroom, I think it *could* have an effect on valuation when/if we go to sell as the house is a "family" home! I agree with wanda - I never use our bath, I always shower, but my partner loves a bath so it isn't just families who could be put off by there being no bath.

But if you're planning on staying in the property for years - who cares, do what you like Big Grin

I would always put in a Bathtub, even a small 1500mm one with a shower and shower screen. You cover all options and tastes that way for the future and when it comes to selling-up and moving on-- never say never!
Still, it's your home so you do what you feel is best for you.

well, i only have a bath in my house and i wish we had decided to put in a shower as well, even though it was more money at the time, there is always that time when all you have time for is a quick shower

We bought our present flat at what seemed like a very reasonable price at the time.

I'm convinced that the word 'shower room' in the schedule (details) put many people off even coming to see it, hence the lack of rival interested parties.

We have since put in a (small) bath, and now we have a lovely 'bathroom'!

Hmmm... what would Beeny do? I think I know!

... most adults probably do prefer the shower on a practical, daily basis. But I for one hate the feeling of being boxed into a shower cubicle - give me an over-bath shower any day!

I'd say err on the side of caution - put a small one in, and the shower over the bath.

I could live without a bath but I hated not having a shower! It was great when we finished our bathroom and I had the choice!

My thoughts exactly. I like to soap up then stand back and have a good rub.

Our kid hates the shower, loves the bath. When kids get grubby, parents want to bath them. This allows all the grime to soak off, where a 2 minute shower would require the parent to scrub and get wet in the process. And kids need a lot of baths!

Having extended out the back with finished space of 21 by 11 feet, need advice on the best layout.

Currently have decent sized lounge and kitchen diner. The extension is accessed by french doors in the kitchen or by two sets french doors in lounge (separated by storage space). Already have approved plans to make a family room behind the kitchen and a bedroom/dining room (flexiblity of use) behind the lounge. Was advised that the extra bedroom would add more value. Unfortunately the Mrs doesn't agree and thinks that it should be one open plan public space, accessed by either kitchen or lounge.

Which would add more value?
