Utilities are a real pain. My problem is not as impressive as Mrs HC's

but still annoying.
When we completed, I read the meters, as one does. The day after, the electricity meter was read. I called in the following week (when we got the phone hooked up). The vendors had misread the meter by 1000 units in their favour. Thank goodness the meter was read by the electrico (something beginning with n) too.
No problem they said, all sorted.
I switched suppliers, too, as the incumbent electrico had done something to annoy me years earlier. I have just got the final bill and they are now saying that my reading was incorrect, and the vendors were correct. I must have used over 1000 units in 24 hours. Now even if I had 15 3KW fan heaters to plug in, it would have burst the suppliers fuse. So we are now in dispute.
Now the telco (the British one based in Bangalore). I was in the rented place for 3 months, so I was 3 months into a min 12 month broadband contract. When we moved, instead of transferring the contract to the new address, they cancelled it and opened a new one. DOH! So they automatically billed me for the remaining 9 months of the old contract. They then increased my monthly direct debit by a factor of 3 because this charge raised my average monthly usage figure and now they tell me it can't be sorted out until the next quarter! So I am in dispute with them too.
Final one is just annoying. The day we moved, I grabbed a passing window cleaner, so that was sorted. Then a couple of weeks ago, a bloke came to the door and said he was the window cleaner. He wasn't
my window cleaner, so I told him to clear off. Anyway things were getting a bit heated so Mrs SM came to investigate. Turns out she had appointed another window cleaner. Now we can't agree who to sack...
