We have a cold room, and need to run occasionally an electric heater of some sort. What is the cheapest in terms of electricity consumption in your opinion?? Electric Oil rad, air blower etc.,

Cost to run is based on the output, not on the type of heater.

Oil filled take a while to heat up, but hold heat. Good if they are to be kept on for long periods as coupled with a thermostat they will cycle on and off once the room is up to temp.

Electric give instant heat, but don't hold it. Good if you want a quick burst of heat, but will also cycle if fitetd with a thermostat.

Low energy panel heaters (500-750w) are generally for background heat.

I have an electric oil radiator, as recommended on here and in many other places - I thought it was the bee's knees until I worked out how much it was costing (with my funky electricity meter). They eat money! Spend the money on a lovely jumper instead ;-)

My mother has an oil filled radiator which she uses in the bathroom. It is used constantly during winter, but on a very low setting. My mother is absolutely strapped for cash so it must be economical to run or she wouldn't use it - it must depend on the size of heater and the setting you use.

Well, I wonder if it's more the size of the room and how well insulated it is? As the oil filled radiators will try to keep a room at a constant temperature, and I can imagine that that's easier in a small bathroom than in our studio?

Yes true the bathroom is small and has only one outside wall. And my mother only 'wants the chill taken off'.

I have a Delonghi Dragon for our studio but I rarely use it - only a handful of times a year - it's very effective.
