Can anyone elaborate on how you establish the property boundaries?

I've always assumed it was from the fence posts in the garden?

It's just that the next-door neighbor is building an extension and looking from the chimney it appears to be over to our property, yet it's in line with the fence post.

Also, this is a 1927 semi, 3bed property. Now the party wall appears to be approx 4 bricks thick. Would this include a cavity?

Thanks

Were you not notified of all this before work was started? I am guessing it would not have been given planning permission if any aspect was not in line with current regs?

We were provided a plan, but no real detail of boundaries.

Apparently the builders used a plumb line from the chimney. I had a word with the neighbour and must admit I was quite satisfied with the answers and looking again the extension does seem correctly placed, but my other half still has doubts, which is why you see this post!!

I hope you received a Party Wall notice as well.

Your Deeds should state the extent of your property. Fences are not an exact measure, as they are often put inside a boundary rather than on the edge.

Thanks for the replies.

The neighbours are good; if anything has gone wrong I would imagine it would be down to the builders. I definitely do not want to start a war with the neighbours!!

I'll do some measuring first.
