The best uPVC manufacturer would be one that refused to install it on the front of Victorian houses! Pigs might fly.

Shahid, please assure us you're not going to ruin a period house like my neighbours are in the process of doing! On Saturday, the most grotesque gold-coloured leaded light uPVC front door was installed, ruining an otherwise unspoilt Edwardian Terrace.

It really is hideous stuff!!

Oh man... that hurts, doesn't it!

But it's like one of my befriended EAs once said: "They don't think they're doing the house a disservice".

Long live conservation areas!

I live in a conservation area and just around the corner from me, the people have recently replaced the probably perfectly repairable Victorian wooden sash windows with totally out of place UPVC.

I feel kind of bad for these people because I'm sure they don't mean harm, but they now probably (hopefully) have to re-install wooden sash windows after local Planning intervened.

We are all jumping to the conclusion that Shahid has a period property with the original windows. I hope he does not, if he is considering replacing them!

There was a property down my street that not only had all the original sash windows, but even had all the original (shimmering) glass.

The new owners came in about a year ago, ripped them all out, put PVC monstrosities in, even replaced the stained glass door with an expanse of white plastic. Oh, and they chipped off all the original tiles in the porch too, and painted it instead. Vandals!

why all these comments about period properties? For all we know, shahid might live in a modern tower block!

Perhaps Shahid could let us know the type of property he is trying to find windows for, ot the style he is going for, and we could recommend companies that we know who provide them?

Ary.

I know of a mid-terraced house near where I used to live, that was coated in a kind of burgundy rubberised textured plastic coating that never felt quite dry... The owners had the nerve to put a sign in the window saying, "Coating by XXX Ltd" as if it was something other people would want!

And this was in a Conservation Area, too!!! Eek Monstrous!!!
