Ok I am going to oil my new wooden work that arrived today this weekend. I had bought some pure tung oil as the man in the local hardware ahop said it was the best thing. But the worktop came with Danish oil. Which one should I use?
Lee I know you have some experitise in the area what do you think.
Wait until you get a couple of opinions, but my understanding is that Danish oil is a mixture of oils that contains tung oil. Tung oil is more expensive than the other oils and is usually added as a hardener. I think that the tung oil is probably the better product but I've never used it myself (as I've never seen it in its pure state).
Hmmm on closer inspection of the instructions that came with the worktop it has already had a couple of coats of Danish Oil. I guess that means that we should keep adding that. Maybe once a year I will Tung it.
That sounds very rude but was completely unintentional!
Pure tung oil is the most water resistant natural product in existence and when pure it is food safe, you need 4 days between coats for drying but when it is finished with about 6 coats you will be ok - after that one coat a month for a few months to built up a stronger finish then maybe one coat a year.
