I have recently purchased a house, and it has a drive with two gates, but no dropped kerb in front of it. I have been parking my car on it and recently received a letter from the council saying it was illegal and I could be prosecuted, which I was unaware of. I had always intended to get a dropped kerb anyway, and am putting my application in. It's a bit annoying, as some mardy neighbor must have shopped me, why, I don't know. It is especially annoying as there are other people along the road who do exactly the same thing, one just 2 doors away!
Why is it illegal to cross a kerb to get to your property, but it seems to be ok to drive along the footpath and park on the footpath, as most other people along my road do?
As I'm on a main road, I have to get planning permission, does anyone know how long that usually takes? Surely it can't be too long for just a dropped kerb? I don't think I should have a problem as there have been plenty of other kerbs done down the road. I have a manhole cover on the pavement, I think phone line, but that won't stop me getting one will it?
I don't think you've been shopped - the council will have been snooping. This is a nice little earner for the council so you should not have problems getting PP.

The answer is that it ISN'T ok to drive along or park on the footpath.
Hopefully the phone line and manhole cover wont cause too much of a problem, but i wouldnt be surprised if the council try "extra" for working around them.
Don't know how much the council charge in your area for creating a drop kerb, but in my area its hundreds and hundreds.
I wouldn't be surprised if your up the street neighbour got a letter through their letter box aswell. they had you in a bind now unfortunately. I hope it isn't too expensive.
Ary.

You could have problems with people parking across your access unless you get the kerb dropped.Ideally get the whole kerb dropped so it links to neighbours, that way it's an offence to block a shared drive [does not apply to single access].
Never argue with a woman. You might win - and then you'll really be in trouble.
