I would like wireless Internet, but I have concerns about its safety as in health not security. Does anyone else on the forum share my concerns.
P.S. I have had a headache all day today and I can’t blame it on the Wi-Fi, because I don’t have it. Yet. Big Grin

There is no proven link between WiFi and two headedness, which is not to say it will not be proven in the future.
Seriously, provided you don't have the access point next to your bed or something like that you should be OK.
I use a homeplug access point (google it) to site my WiFi access point away from the router which is only a wall's thickness from child's bed head.
I also turn it off when not in use.

I wouldn't worry at all - the transmission levels are incredibly low. They don't need to be high because the range is intentionally limited, unlike mobile phones that have to be able to reach the nearest mast.

As a matter of interest, one of the safest places to be with a mobile mast is right underneath - the radiation from these highly directional masts is almost nil in a vertical axis. So when your local school wants to put a mobile mast on the roof say "yes please" - it's the people a few hundred yard away that will receive the max. You'll find that people who live near TV repeater masts are well aware of this - reception is dire right next door to the mast and you've got to get well away to get decent reception.

When you do get it do a search for other users - if you are like me you will get a list of at least a dozen so their signals are reaching me.

If you are worried about health risks with wi-fi you better go and live down the bottom of a mineshaft as you are constantly being bombarded with wi-fi radio waves!

I do find the Wi Fi safety issue quite bizarre..

You get all these paranoid parents demanding schools go back to wired networks yet they'll all have a radiation-leeking device in the kitchen called a microwave oven which no one worries about opening before turning off, even with a child in arms...

We do worry about a load of nonsense these days.

You know, everybody has got the cause of global warming completely wrong. It has nothing to do with CO2. Of all the energy that radio transmitters radiate, only a fraction of it is picked up by the intended receiver(s). The rest of it simply heats up the environment (and your brain). That's billions of watts Worldwide! Eek We aren't so much in a greenhouse as in a microwave.

The incident power at a particular distance from an emitter decreases with the inverse square of the distance. In general, the RF power incident on you is very small, but if the transmitter is only inches away from your head, the power is very much more significant. Just be sensible about where you put your access point as I said in my first reply.

A more worrying aspect of all these transmitters (mobile phone, wifi, tv, radio, cordless phone, ipod fm link) is the sheer number of them. Only a fraction of the transmitted power is received at by the intended device, the rest just goes into warming up the environment. That billions of watts Worldwide. It all increases global warming... If there is such a thing...

Ah, my most favourite rule in physics - the inverse square rule. Big Grin
