Does anyone know a site that has a good guide, including tips for packing/organising the move etc. Incidentally, when is the best time to start packing in preparation for a move??
Hi Doo! Not sure about sites, but when we moved last year, as soon as we accepted the buyer's offer, we started slowly to clear the 'big' stuff, ie contents of loft and shed, and then on the day of exchange we started to pack in earnest (poor earnest ) as we had a full two weeks before completion. Just take it slowly and methodically - it's amazing how much junk you can live without for a while!
When you look for removal company check that they are a member of the British Assoc of Removals (BAR)as they are professionals. Also that they are insured. Also if they will pack your breakables - sometimes if you pack these yourself you're not covered by their insurance. I moved from a studio flat with absolutely no space in which I could pack so they did it all - it was so painless! And quick! I nipped round cleaning up whilst they packed and so had hardly any cleaning to do on completion day. Now is the time for you to start clearing out/donating to charity/arranged for your local council to collect bulky items. Ring round removal companies for quotes - get 3/4 if you can and check what it covers-don't move on a Friday as everyone does. I moved on a Thurs and had no probs finding a good company - I'd spotted them elsewhere doing other removals. My company came round and looked at what I was moving and sent the right size van, provided boxes, a hanging wardrobe, sellotape. But do have areally good sort-out first so that you're only taking what you want.
Peapod It is so true your comment about how much junk you can live without. I put a lot of stuff into storage and have now retrieved it. If I haven't looked at it for a year then it will be easier to dispose of it.
Again not sure on sites but I have v useful and fairly inexpensive book: 'Which Guide to Moving House' which sounds exactly the kind of thing you need, tells you absolutely everything.
