Luxaflex Silhouette see their websitebut they are a bit pricey. If you have a John Lewis near you, you can see them there.

You can get some very un-chintz nets these days. Just look in the Next and John Lewis catalogues, which show lovely rooms with long plain nets covering the windows.

Well shutters are very fashionable at the moment. Nobody has net curtains where I live. Most people have wooden venetian blinds or just plain curtains which they leave open night and day... Take a walk round my neighbourhood at dusk - you can see straight into their homes...

quote: Voiles are nice though, especially for bedrooms, but do beware that if you are changing in front of a window with voiles or nets on and it's at night and you have the lights on there will be a very, very strong silhouette of you/hubby getting changed in the window!
Older houses tend to have the main light fitting in the bedrooms close to the window rather than in the centre of the ceiling for precisely that reason!

Its weird how you mention regional differences. Here in Liverpool, everyone seems to have verticcal blinds. In fact on the new estates, its unusual to spot a house without them. They are very handy. I think they look quite smart on modern houses but I wouldnt for example put them on sash windows.
