You know it makes sense!
And as for people here saying removing properties from the marketplace will reduce prices am I missing something? Supply and demand means values will rocket! then burst!

The HIP's question is being debated in Parliament next week.......should have been yesterday but was put back due to the emergency debate on the 3 Natwest Crooks. (those 3 are worth a read-up on the background to the case.Just because your not wearing hood doesn't mean your not capable of committing a crime! Big Grin)

Thanks Brixmorta.

only it seems to me, if I were selling a house, and I had to pay £1000 up front for a HIP, and then say 3 months down the line (which is not a long time in selling terms) I had to pay again to update that HIP, it would make me think twice about selling unless I really had to.

fair enough loads of people are only moving because they have to for one reason or other, but I am amazed at the number I come across who move repeatedly for no special reason except itchy feet that I can see. I imagine those are the ones who will think twice in future and it will make a dent in the number of available properties - and we all know what happens when ther's a perceived shortage of anything , don't we? panic buying.

ABSOLUTELY!

I moved last time simply because of itchy feet.Moving is expensive enough another 1k is going to make many think they are ok where they are thus creating a lack of stock.
Another 'south sea bubble' or tulipmania ay Melboy!

SCRAP HIPS I say.

another £1k could put me off selling too, crazy country. whats next?

I know... you will be taxed on selling your own main property next, I buy and sell on a regular basis, keep moving on, its how I make money!

another £1000 is ridiculous, and as for buying somewhere, I wouldnt care if the seller at a HIPS pack or not, I still want my own survey doing.

I honestly and firmly believe HIP's will be scrapped and become history. It is becoming too much of a Political Millstone for the present Government which, let's face it, is reeling from far to many dumb and stupid initatives it has dreamt up this past couple of years.

We estimate that the cost of preparing a pack for an average home will be of the order of £600-£700. But:

these are not additional costs, as most of the changes involve doing the same things as in the current home buying process but more efficiently and at an earlier stage.

This quote is from the ODPM, Mr Prescott's department basically, and it believes that no extra costs will come from having HIPS.

However, when I bought I had a Home Buyer Survey which cost me £325, and included a valuation. Under this new scheme, the person selling would have paid £350-£400 for a Home conditon report, and I would still have had to pay £200-£300 for a valuation survey.

So rather than reducing the costs of an expensive process, it seems to be adding some.

Mr Prescott was recently given the gift of an £11000 Cowboy Outfit, even the American Benefactor can see the humour in the headline; John Prescott-Cowboy Outfit!

I suppose you could say that the property selling is already in need of a "HIP" replacement! Ho ho! Santa

I don't believe it!! I completely agree with immy on this one.

The stated object of HIPs is to reduce costs to consumers, yet a huge multi-million pound HIP industry is being created ready to fleece those very consumers.

The campaign against HIPs supported by members of all political parties, is gathering momentum. Either the scheme will have to be scrapped/watered down or it will become Labour's poll tax.

Don't you just love being right!!
