When I moved into my new house I inherited a rather large Timber Conservatory. It is very solid and nice but the roof is made of Corrugated plastic and it is now dirty with visible signs of dead insects etc.

My question is whether I can replace the roof and if so with what. I doubt that putting in Glass would be suitable into old Timber frames and it would be expensive. Is there a way of cleaning this type of roof? Anyone got any experience of this?

Replacing the plastic is really easy and I'd be tempted to replace like with like. The sheets can be bought from any major DIY outlet and they are simply screwed on to the joists. I helped my grandfather replace his plastic roof in 1988 and it is still in place. so I must have done something right.

I have a similar issue with my conservatory. Corugated plastic is a little less than chic especially when it's grubby. I am planning to replace it with triple wall polycarbonate as it's sturdier than the existing arrangement, easier to clean and has an element of UV protection plus it's cheaper and easier to fit than glass.

Replaced mine in November with triple wall polycarbonate and it's now great to sit in every day. Costs were £60 + VAT per panel [2.5 m x 1m]taped and blown [whatever that means- I think it means it stops insects getting in, but not too sure]. Anyway, readily available from plastics companies.
