Here they are in order of desirablity, good luck in your search (I was born and bred in Walton on Thames)
1. Weybridge, well the Beatles can't have been wrong can they <g> 2. Byfleet, good links to London, excellent shopping developement called Brooklands nearby. A good vet there too, I use him! 3. Chertsey, hmm, always been cheaper, bit depressing, onmy MVHO, and apologies to anyone who lives in Chertsey. Good if you like riding the rollercoasters though lol Good luck in your search, why not consider Guildford, very quick train to London, great shopping, lovely countryside nearby
After having seen properties in both Byfleet & Chertsey on Saturday I've already crossed them off my potential future residence....and the Byfleet train station was so filthy & scary at the same time!!
You're right, in fact Weybridge, Guildford, & Epsom are next on my sight. I know properties are more expensive so we'll see.
Have you thought about Fetcham,my brother lives there and I think its lovely. As I live in Greater Manchester leafy Surrey always looks great whenever I visit. On holiday in Majorca a few years ago we got friendly with a women from Weybridge and she thought that Fetcham wasnt very nice as it had too much council property!!!What a snob she was,if she thinks Fetchams bad she wants to try living where I do!!
You are looking at the right end of Surrey. Weybridge - best out of all three. Is on the expensive side due to being on the main line to London and having private roads and gated areas like St Georges. Quite nice though, with everything you need, bars, pubs, restuarants, banks, etc - very nice and NOT trashy. So in short I would move there in a flash.
Chertsey on the other hand is cheaper than Weybridge (just). There are a few restuarants around and near a new 2 yr old/ish development. If you have a car then great because Chertsey is not shabby at all, it's very small and has a smaller village called Lyne which is a bit on the expensive side. The shops in Chertsey are just for convenience although you do have a v. good PO and banks on the high street, sainsburys, gym, pub/s etc - but i's not as busy as Weybridge, weybridge has a bit of a night life. But again, if you do drive parking is not an issue in the evening.
In Brooklands - which is near Weybridge and Chertsey and Addlestone, there's a big Tescos, M n S and Argos, PC World Mamas and Papas. Though. And David Lloyds, ideal if you live in Weybridge but you may need to drive.
Schools in Chertsey both Primary and Secondary - also some fee paying schools in the area. These areas are relatively close to each other. My money goe to Weybridge. You may want to look at Esher too.
Byfleet, I can't say because I always find it depressing driving past (sorry if anyone lives there). I think there's Byfleet, New Haw, West Byfleet - all very confusing but I remember some nice areas although most of it seemed rather . . . It may be worth having a look.
By the way Cliff Richard used to live in Weybridge, and Chris Tarrant in Esher (if he hasn't been kicked out by his wife by now)- and I'm sure a lot of other odd and wondeful people. Good luck
