Hi, I'm new to this and not sure if this post is in the right spot, but hey I'll give it a go.... All that I want to know is, what indoor plant will do well in the bathroom? It is quite small and can get steamy hence Ive "killed" two plants in there already. Any suggestions??
We've a spider plant hung from the roof and (if you don't cut them off Mr. HC ) it breeds little dangly spider plants. It quite likes it in there but you still have to water if now and again - put it in a shallow bath for a couple of hours
I agree with Holy Cheese - other 'tough' plants like Tradescantia, Philodendron will do as well - as long as there is decent light.
I think that ferns look lovely but the bathroom does tend to be humid/dry/humid/dry - they would much prefer it to be constantly humid. There are tricks to achieve this but most people (inc me) can't be bothered!
I have a purple oxalice on a wide window sill, it loves it there and it's pretty, the three leaves on each stem go to 'sleep' at night and 'wake' with daylight by spreading out again.
I agree with HC about spider plants, they tolerate almost any conditions, you would be hard pushed to kill one as long as you remember to water it. They breed 'babies' which you can either leave dangling, or pot up to make a new plant. But as you say the bathroom is very small, do you want to clutter it up with a houseplant?
thanks for the help guys, i bought a spider plant and it is still alive and well. It hung up on one of the walls and i think is about to have a "baby!"
I remember having a conversation like this with an old colleague. His bathroom plants kept dying on him. It wasn't until we had checked all the obvious care duties and were running out of ideas that he mentioned the bathroom didn't have any windows!
ooh i also want to boast about my parrot plant which is now really tall and has 'parrots' all the way down the trunks as well as the branches in summer. It's my pride and joy. MIL's died -HAHAHAHA! mine didn't!
I used to have a parrot plant HC! Well, until I went to university and left it in my mother's tender care - she decided to prune it back a bit and killed it...
