Am I being dim?

I phoned our emergency plumbing cover as we had water leaking in a big way and and being soaked up the plasterwork in a downstairs room. There is nowhere obvious for this water to be coming from: no pipes running near that wall, etc. Our inference was that there must be a lot of water leaking somewhere to be travelling around under the house to get this far.

The response from our plumbing insurers was yes, we were covered for the leak, but they wouldn't come out until we'd worked out where the water was coming from. Protests that we weren't plumbers and wouldn't know where to begin weren't even entertained. How is this emergency cover?

I knew nothing about plumbing or the answer to your question but in my opinion that's rubbish! Phone them again and demand they do the job they're paid for and change who you have your emergency plumbing cover with.

You want us to attend to an emergency? Sorry, your policy doesn't cover that!

i've been up since 5am as i was woken by torrential rain pouring into my bedroom. phoned the insurance and they can't get anyone out until monday, but in the meantime could we not turn the water off? ????
these people are complete gonads. I explained to them that unfortunatly I was not from a higher plain and i could not turn RAIN off, but hey, I would speak to whoever necessary and give it a go.
needless to say, they are now trying to find me an EMERGENCY roofer to try and come look and plug the gaps so to speak! Let's hope emergency means a lot less than 72 hours!

lol... not funny for you of course, but so ridiculous you have to laugh... yes, I agree, tell them exactly what you told us... you don't know where the water is coming from, that's why you need a plumber... refuse to take no for an answer and keep insisting to speak to someone more senior until you get through to someone with more than one brain cell
