Has anyone got any ideas for gettng rid of ants? We can't find where they are coming in but as they are most prevalent in the kitchen this seems to be the most likely place. We had them once before but successfully killed them with something from the garden centre but this time I think they are super ants as they are resisting everything we put down. Any ideas and has anyone else got them?
my mother in laws got em, but it serves her right.
all the useful chemicals that worked have been banned by the EU, so your stuck with the problem unless you use a pest control company who need a licence to use the same chemical we were all using for years before they banned it.
We had them in my previous flat and Nippon ant stuff worked, BUT only if we put fresh stuff down every day like it says on the bottle. It took at least a month before we stopped seeing them.
We paid a large amount for a pest company to spray, but since we didn't know where they were coming from (we suspected roof garden, so property above ours) they just sprayed a few surfaces inside the flat which did nothing. The ants just came back in greater numbers after it wore off, like they were making up for lost time! I'm sure spraying is the best solution but only if you can actually get their nest.
Used ant powder after Nippon failed [tried it for months without success] need to use it at nest entrance, it then kills everything leaving the nest, or where they enter property.
Never argue with a woman. You might win - and then you'll really be in trouble.
I find that a magnifying glass on a sunny day is a satisfying, if time consuming way of dealing with the problem. In reality I have used those ant bait things - like a plastic walk in food shop for ants. The food of course is a poison which they take back to the nest and they all die. It was effective in dealing with a couple of infestations I had last year...
