I've seen something similar on a tv show (maybe the one with Kirsty). Technically after the time you're supposed to be out you're trespassing but it would be a pretty harsh person that didn't give you a bit of leeway. Chances of it happening are very slim though.

Hope so. I would think that the removal firms have their reputation to consider.

Tillie I am a very nervous person, but you have managed to think of a scenario which even I had not succeeded in worrying about If you choose a reputatable company for your removals, the chances of them not turning up are vanishingly small. You've booked them, they want the money - so barring disasters they will turn up.

Choose a company that is a member of BAR the British Association of Removers. They are a very good orgnisation.

Everyone should really think about which of their possesions are meaningful to them and put those into a small case, and then worry not a jot about the rest.

It happened to a work colleague of mine and she managed to get hold of another firm after a lot of hassle. A few years ago when I moved my purchaser's solicitor went off to court and forget to sign the cheque on the morning that we were all to move which meant that I could not get the keys for the house I was buying. The furniture van had collected all my furniture by 1000am and it had to sit outside my new house until 0400pm that afternoon before my purchaser tracked down the solicitor who eventually signed the cheque. I had to pay the removal guy extra money as he was late getting to another job.

It happened to my mum it was an ad out of the local free paper you know the ones "man and a van" cheap.Inspite of phoning him 3 times to check it was ok the date and time etc he just never showed and then didnt answer his phone either. She had the purchsaers outside too waiting with their removals van .We just tried a few others until we got lucky and found one who had a cancellation and he came right away.
Just make sure you choose a reputable company

I'm not surprised moving is stressful. On Friday the EA phoned me at work to say that my purchaser had signed the contract to buy my house. I phoned my solicitor this morning and asked about signing the contract to sell, she informed me that as far as she knew my purchaser still had not got his mortgage offer. I then phoned the EA and told them and they informed that my solicitor had got it wrong because he did get the mortgage offer but it was under his partner's name. At this stage I have half my house pulled apart.
