Hello all. Please be kind as this is my 1st post. Ive been a lurker here for about a year and learnt some really helpful things. I now have a question which I hope someone can answer. I live iin a new build property (Oct '05) which is wel insulated and warm. My gas bills have been coming thru and they are REALLY expensive compared to my old house. I know that I am on an Indipendant pipe line (or something similar). My question is, is it cheaper to run my heating with it constantly on but turned down low or is it best to leave it as I have it now as coming on twice a day and turning it down a bit if I get too warm???? My system was installed at the end of Sept '05 and is a Potterton Powermax HE condensing boiler. Thanks L x
I don't know what timescale you are comparing bills with, but gas prices have increased phenomenally recently. In Feb 05 my quarterly bill was £180, Feb 06 it was £280. So the increase in your bills may not be solely connected with your house move?
To get the definitive answer to your question, why not try both methods and compare the costs.

You will use more gas and hence get bigger bills if you leave the gas on all the time.
