Anyone know if they are any good? I've seen a mortgage from clydesdale which is 4.69% variable but am reluctant to pay charcoal £5 joining fee. I've been to Clydesdale's website and there is nothing there near those figures.
I've not heard of them. What I would do is go on Moneysupermarket or similar and do a search based on your requirements. You can do your own search but if you want their help they were good with us and free.
Many mortgage broking services are ostensibly ‘free’ but as none of them have charity status the broker does get paid somehow. This can be from associated product sales (life cover, redundancy insurance and what have you) or more commonly via a procuration fee paid to them by the lender. Comparatively few lenders pay fees to intermediaries for introductions so it can mean that the broker directs you not towards the best deal but towards the deal upon which he/she will be paid. You can get a feel for the market by doing your own research on sites like Moneysupermarket (and also http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk) and if your requirements are straightforward you can approach lenders direct. If, however, your requirements are slightly beyond the norm then a good broker will be of benefit. Many of the larger ones (like Charcol) do get special allocations of mortgage funds at keen rates but probe carefully for any conditions attaching.
