"The greatest trick the Devil played, was convincing us all that he did not exist"
The purdonium might be just what my dad's looking for - I've sent him the link
Meanwhile, as most unusual Ebay item, can I suggest the following 'mystery item', described as follows:
"The other wooden item is rather a mystery
It is beautifully crafted but I have no idea of what it was made for, I thought it may be to hit a gong with, or maybe to grind something with but I am really not sure."
a bit of both we are selling stuff but from viewings that took place weeks ago. We are down to almost the fewest properties for sale in 10 years I should write a novel perhaps Anyway we were joking that the 'Penny for the Guy' kids outside the post office next door are earning more than us right now!

Hatster - I saw that very ad on eBay! The object looked like a wooden mushroom, didn't it. I'm such a saddo - I happen to know it's a thing to help you darn a sock. I don't know this because I darn socks - I don't, in fact, darn socks, but my nan had one.
**Accept that some days you are the pigeon and some days you are the statue.**
I don't think it is a thing you darn socks with, because it doesn't have enough width at the end - I think that might be another thing? (My granny too has a sock darning mushroom) I think it might be a porridge stirring stick?
Is it not for keeping your PIE CRUST up so it doesn't get soggy? (from the gravy). Oh well, just a thought, mmmm, almost lunchtime I can smell the bisto.
An elderly neighbour who does wood turning made my mother a porridge stirrer, called I believe a spurtle (sounds like something you might buy at an Ann Summers party! ) It's a Scottish name I think.
Yes it is Scottish, and it's used for stirring things which is why you can buy them at Anne Summers, they are sold with a tartan ribbon tied to the handle.
