I viewed a house at the weekend which had a ground floor bathroom coming immediately off the kitchen. It's the only bathrrom/toilet in the house.
I thought it was a legal requirement to have a 'lobby' between the two rooms. Is this not the case? When did it change? Will I have a problem selling the house on if there is no lobby? Thanks.
Not the case any longer donna. This question arose a while ago on here, and here's the answer I gave on that thread.
It used to be the case (the two doors with a lobby concept was popular in the 1960s and continued into the 1980s, I lived in various conversions that featured this). But the rules have changed.
The Approved Document to Part G of the Building Regs (hygiene) was amended (1992) to say
"the guidance has been amended to make it clear that a lobby is not required to separate a space containing a sanitary convenience from a space used for the preparation of food"
