Hi!

Need a little advice... moved into a nice old house that is lovely but.. stripped wallpaper from the spare room (going to be a nursery! Big Grin) and discovered lost of damp spotting on one of the wall Frown.

I've had someone look at the roof and all is well there. Just phoned damp specialists to be told they don't do upstairs so not sure who to get to help work out what it is? Can anyone advise me?

Thanks loads in advance!

What do these damp spots look like? Black mould, or brown watery type marks?

Thanks for the quick reply!

They look like black mould.

In that case it is almost certainly condensation, you don't need any sort of expert help for that. You can remedy it by good ventilation and heating (which you would want in a nursery anyway).

You can kill the existing mould with anti fungal washes (available from diy sheds) and you can also buy anti fungal paint if you think it's necessary. But heating and ventilation is the most important requirement.

Thanks - that makes alot of sense as the front of the house (this room is a little further back and has a decent window) has very poor ventilation as previous owners painted the windows shut! (but thats for another thread!)

Many thanks for taking the time to help. Big Grin

Get the windows opened up and open them at every opportunity, keep the door to the room open too.

Also remember a nursery doesn't have to be too hot, recommended temperature of all bedrooms to enusre decent sleep is just 18 degrees C.

... and you can buy a dehumidifyer to help dry out the room a little quicker aswell.

Ary.
