Yay, our completion date is tomorrow..finally get the keys. Everythings boxed up and ready to go, its going to be a mad busy weekend. We're really looking forward to it, settling in and getting the first BBQ of the season underway
Hi everyone, Its great All the keys are rather confusing, theres so many of them and i havent a clue which one fits which lock..took me 10 minutes to lock all the doors! We've also been introduced to the neighbours and had a tour of their house. They were very friendly which was nice. We have no plans to decorate anything for time being, thought we'd just settle in and take our time.
Stateofplay, thanks for remembering The planning permission for the conservatory wasn't proved, so the vendors took out indemnity insurance which my solicitor insisted on. Today I noticed all the neighbours had exactly the same style of conservatory.... so at least im not the odd one out!
As far as work goes, they're asking for voluntary redundancies, before making compulsary ones. Time will tell and im keeping my fingers crossed. I've got a few years in, and sometimes change isn't always a bad thing.
I maybe offline for a while from tomorrow, so in the meantime good luck to everyone else, I hope it works out well for you

I don't think you have to worry about planning for your (yes, it's now yours!) conservatory. Especially with all your neighbours having similar ones.
WOW, i must be getting better Its nice to think it's our place, not sure its really sunk it yet! In reality i know its really the banks, but one brick at a time we'll be paying it off. Plus we can paint things without asking for permission first

YAY Three weeks in and everythings great. The neighbours are really nice, very friendly. I went totally overboard in the first week, immediatly after unpacking I went straight into DIY mode and ended up with so many sore muscles i had to take extra time off work Its good to be back online

Hope your house is still standing after all that DIYing But more seriously (and plain curiously) what sort of DIY are you doing?
I have discovered i am quite hopeless at DIY, thankfully the place is still standing, tho im not sure for how much longer Besides an aweful lot of gardening, we've striped the conservatory of old shelves and storage units. This freed up enough space for a sofa & tv, overlooking the pond where i've been busy learning all about fish. We've hung pictures absolutley everywhere, built a table and BBQ for the patio. Replaced lots of hanging light bulbs with proper fitted lights and sorted out a few plumbing issues.
Everyday I wake up and think what can i do next, im sure this will wear off in time tho
I have been learning about fish as well, I found a pond hidden in the garden! No food in the shed or garage, but the house had been empty for 4 or 5 months!
Now I am in, I have realised the pond is in the wrong place, so I am considering digging out a new one. Probably be easier to give the fish to my neighbour and fill in the hole, still thinking about it.
Good luck with your DIY, my wife has a long list for me to do:
remove partition wall and make good and replace floor tiles.
Change kitchen units, worktops and re-tile.
Re-decorate every room.
Block up an external door.
Enough already! I think she imagines me as handy andy or something. I am saving up to get a builder in to do it!
Hi Stateofplay, thanks for the good luck, same to you Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you! Have you considered applying to one of those property shows where the experts turn up and do all the work? Perhaps they should bring back Jim'll Fix it
PS the last place i rented had a pond. To be honest it was disgusting. I tried to clean it up, but it really needed a new pump & filter. Despite the poor conditions & lack of food the fish seemed to thrive.
Since i've moved, i've seen a lot of books on how to build a pond, but not much on how to look after one.
