Watched last nights relocation with great interest. That couple managed to hike their bar's profits by 38% in a year - does anybody know how they did this?
The sky is clearly the limit for anybody willing to work this hard - those holiday flats will be a nice little earner too.
I always thought that if a couple wanted to become publicans, they had to attend courses etc, and satisfy the brewery that they had what it takes. But this couple just seemed to turn up with the money and stroll into the business with no prior experience - is this normal?
My last observation was that the wife seemed really determined to live above the premises, so that they could spend more family time together. But I don't see how they could do this, unless they plan to look after their toddler son in the bar?
Good to see a down to earth couple for a change, willing to roll their sleeves up and turn a business around through sheer determination. Moving in and opening the pub on the same day! Unbeleiveable.

I'd always thought this too, SG - most breweries run training courses for people who want to become publicans, we were puzzling over how they got the brewery to accept them as they were! Possibly that's why they didn't go for the Griffin - I can't imagine that whoever owns that massive place would want to risk handing it over to a couple of non-tried newcomers...

If I remember correctly, the guy had previously worked as a barman (part-time) so he already knew some of the ropes. I could be wrong, in which case I'm sure someone will correct me
