Does anyone know of any insurance companies that will insure a house with on of the new types of flat roof material.
My whole house is covered by a flat roof which is made of EPDM, this stuff is virtually indestructable, better than Felt or ashphalt, but trying to find an insurer is net to impossible.
I have contacted the supplier to find out if they know of anyone but i'm asking here too.
Did you ever find an answer to this question - I am looking to renew my home insurance, but my current insurer listed EPDM as "felt" which I don't think does this material justice...
I don't think they [insurance] will treat it any different to felt as although it's longer lasting [you can't claim for wear and tear] it can be damaged in the same way as felt [impact damage].
Never argue with a woman. You might win - and then you'll really be in trouble.
If the EPDM has been laid properly and covered with a layer of chippings or pea gravel, it should last for many years more than ordinary roffing felt without the need for maintenance. The chippings or gravel will act as a shock absorber for impact damage but not penetrating damage (nails, etc).
