Hey all, gotta quick question about powerpoints. Just doing up our front room at the moment, and we only have 1 double powerpoint in total, so I would like to put a new one in. Fine with that, done it before, however inbetween where the exisiting powerpoint is and where we would like the new one is a chimney and fireplace. We are not planning on useing the fire place, except for decorative value. Do I have to rip up floor boards or can I drill a hole through the fireplace and put the cable through?? Or any other suggestions. I would not mind chaseing the cable, just dont want to break any building regs.
Mikey84 please make sure all the electrical work done in you house has been done by an approved Electrician. I got loads done on my house recently as I didnt have the time. The Electrician was a true professional and explained the new legislation that covers domestic electricity. Basically if you do it yo dont have a certificate, if your job sets the house on fire or kills people you have void insurance and will be held liable for any death or injury. I sleep safe at night knowing I am totally covered and have a valid certificate of all work done.
Hi Mike - I know nothing about this buty I will say that you need many more points than you imply - power points are like money - howvwer much you have got it is not quite enough. They do not cost much to put in.
I agree with johnbee, I wouldn't have thought two doubles in a lounge would be enough. We have four and that is barely enough! No matter how many you have it isn't enough. And they always turn out to be in the wrong place.
thanks for all the advice guys. The existing powerpoint is part of the ring main Hamish. The exisitng cable is 2.5mm. Houseman- my sisters new boyfriend, as it turns out, is a fully qualified sparky so they are coming round for dinner next Saturday (he is bringing his toolkit )
Johnbee- we dont really have much electrical stuff in our front room, and are happy using 4 gangers if needs be
