Hi all i'm in a dilema! I'm in the process of putting in a new kitchen which has light maple cupboards and black work top. I'm going to put in black tiles but i'm not sure whether white grout or a grout that matches with the tiles. Any ideas????
Two reasons - one is that it is a bit less stark a contrast than white would be, the other is on the same principles that influenced my choice of grey for bath towels. White goes grey anyway, so if you start with grey it looks intentional!!!
I would go with white as well - in fact, my dream tiles for my new house are shiny black mosaics with sparkling white grout. The contrast looks fantastic.
Although, if I was having slate tiles on the floor which I'd also like, I would go for the darker grout as you don't want it to look so sparkly and different there I don't think.

I'm doing up my house but cant get the builders to understand putting tiles together. They think its against norms. I see in glossy home magazines the tiles dont have groutlines and looking gorgeous. They think the tiles might buckle up over time... how did you get yours done? did you do it yourself reeny?
Tiles houldnt be put together a the water will penetrate into the joins and start removing the adhesive. Water proof adhesive doesnt always do what it says on the tin, hence why grout was invented.
I would say Grey but would to see the rest of the kitchen. I cant see white, cream etc matching with a wooden look kitchen with black tiles.
Jo C if you ever come back. What colour, style and type of floor do you have and same question for walls that are not going to be tiled. Also are your appliances white or metallic etc?
I would go for black- I did when I did the kitchen with black marble with white vein tiles. Although the grout looked black in powder form I found it mixed up to a greyish colour. Looked good- kitchen was very pale beech (Nevada range from Wickes- changed the boring handles for chrome chile peppers!!) with black worktop, stainless steel applicances & sink, chrome kettle & accessories & only the walls around the worktop tiled half way with the reset painted timeless cream. Suprising how such a cheap kitchen can be dressed to look expensive.
thanks for your posts. I haven't done the flooring yet so this will be done after the wall tiles. Looking possibly towards the laminate flooring look but as a vynal. the walls that wont be tiled i haven't decided on yet but possibly a beige colour maybe, not so sure. I have got silver appliances
