I visited one of my property's today and opened the door to the scene from a horror movie.... FLIES, THOUSANDS OF THEM! loads flew out of the doors and I battled my way bravely to the first floor where the sitting room and 2 bedrooms are... loads more all gathered around the windows.. I opened the windows and brushed out as many as I could. My immediate thought was "what's been left lying about to rot??" but the was nothing..... nothing at all. The flat is completely empty of furniture and there is no bin....my last visit to the house was about 5 days ago when all was well. its a maisonette with a flat downstairs and iv noticed the bloke who lives d/s hasn't seemed to moved his van since I was last here. ARE YOU THINKING WHAT I AM THINKING?
Hoping you haven't got a corpse downstairs, I suggest you get the place fumigated or at least buy a few of those 'bomb' things you can get if you have a problem with dog fleas, as they kill all insects. When a property is empty the flies having no disturbance lay their eggs under floors etc. The unnaturally warm weather we are having at the moment is not seeing them off.
Worth a check... knock on his door... also, have you checked the fireplaces? Even when blocked up inside, the top may still be open enough for a pigeon to fall in and die... you would be amazed just how many flies a single dead pigeon could breed!!!
Also, there is a time of day that flies come out... when I had a pigeon down the chimney there was a mass exodus from the vent to the chimney around 11 / 12h00 o clock. Like a scene out of a horror movie. I taped the vent up and had to wait ages for my landlord (I was renting at the time) to come and remove the pigion that he claimed he had been in to remove whilost the poor beggar was still alive
Ary.

At my old flat I had a corpse upstairs for 2 months and there wasn't a whiff of anything...just flies as far as the eye could see and other nasties crawling out of the light fittings.
