Just moved into a fairly new build (3 years old) the brickwork is quite a dark red and there seems to be white salt marks running across the front of the house (about 1 foot up from ground level) how can we clean this, is there an easy way or is there any way? Saying its salt as thats what someone suggested it was!
This occurs quite often on new brickwork. Salts leeching out of the bricks. Nip along to your friendly Builders Merchants and they will flog you a specific cleaner for it.
It is called efflorescence. It is not a fault and will not last for ever. I'd leave it alone and let the rain wah it off, but you can clean it ioff with water. Don't scrape it off with something hard as you might scratch the bricks.
I'd leave it if I were you. We had efflorescence on our new patio, and basically after a while it stops appearing and the rain just washes it off. Presumably if you wash it off yourself before it's finished efflorescing, more will just appear. I can't remember how long it took to disappear for us, but it's certainly gone now, which is two years after the patio was laid.
