get a water softener installed. It costs about £350 but you will save money in cleaning products and the life span of your domestic appliances will improve. Ps I don't sell them but I do extoll their virtues.

Nah, it's better to drink it directly from a new bottle.

i find that fresh yes fresh lemons do the trick try and empty the loo water at end of nite. cut lemon in half and rub in areas that need it and leave the lemons in loo till morning take them out before use it might take few days thought but worth it. i did it and in the bath too. best part is the bathroom smells nice in morning.

I tried Tesco limescale remover. Try taking some water out first so the mix is stronger - and leave it for a couple of hours, it definately helps.

Meanwhile, can anyone help with 'dirt' under the rim? (a) it's imposs to get at and (b) what cleaner does the job? Is some sort of brush hygeinic to use again afterwards? Any ideas please?

I just use bleach. I put it under the rim and also you can put some in the cistern so when you flush it goes right through. I would leave it over night too.
