As far as i am aware it is not neccessary to keep them in the fridge, Delia Smith said so so it must be true But your guess is good as mine, also why is there a special section in the fridge to store them if you are not supposed to keep them in the fridge? All very confusing!

THis has always baffeled me as well. because when baking, you must leave the eggs out of fridge to attain room temperature before baking.

I know it's really frustrating!!! Maybe we should put it down to one of life's great mysteries!

anohter of lifes great mystereis, is why eggs and i have an unrequited love! i would love a soft boiled egg with soldiers but that would see me with my throat itchy and swollen, eyes running, hardly able to breathe and feelign very sick. the stupid thing is, it seemed to happen overngiht when i was 14 and has been that way ever since. i cant face fried either as it has the same effect, hard boiled give me the belly ache but not the same effects in the throat. scrambled just gives me mild indigestion! have them baked in cakes adn no effect whatsoever!! wonder why!??

I've never kept them in the fridge after what Delia said, I always buy organic and make sure I use them all before the BB date.

I never keep them in the fridge. For eating, not cooking, I buy ducks eggs from a local farm. Yummy.

It is true that you do not need to keep eggs in the fridge, but I do anyway as I've not really got anywhere else to put them.

Be careful Biddy, it sounds like you are having a serious allergic reaction to eggs. If you ever decidde to get the Flu shot make sure you tell the nurse of your reaction to eggs.

why is it that you cant have the flu jab if you are allergic to eggs?
|
| |
|

|
I cant have the flu jab because it its association with egg. i dont know what it as in it chaddy but i was told that i was NOT to have teh flu jab!!

I think the measles jab is based in egg too

it is also in a general anaesthetic which is why when i have had ops before i have been so sick after and on one memorable occasion, went into shock. when i have my piles done i am going to insist on an epidural!!

Just thought i'd mention that to see if an egg is fresh, just put it in a pint of water. If it sinks, it's fresh. If it floats, ditch it as it's off or on the turn!

Lady lil...something to do with air in the eggs as they get old. I use this method all the time. I usually get fresh farm eggs so they have no date on them.

I thought with the new rules, even farm eggs need dates. I buy mine at the WI market, and they have to stamp them now.

Q: Why do you buy eggs off the shelf in the supermarket, yet you are instructed to keep them in the fridge at home?
I've asked everyone and nobody seems to know! Help!
Here in the US, eggs are sold cold in the refridgerated section of the supermarket.

Maybe supermarkets tend to be cooler than our homes - a kitchen can get really hot.

The higher the yolk (when you crack an egg) the fresher the egg is. If the yolk is flat, then it's an old egg, not off, but old.

I heard that too BE, but a bit dif from you, I was told if the white of the egg splurges out too much when you crack it for example in the frying pan.....it is not fresh but if it stays more together it's fresh....I'm right off eggs anyway after not long ago as some may remmeber I found a dead chick in egg, second time this has happened to me.....tiz gross.....anyway, I too keep my eggs in fridge although have also heard that they should be kept at room temp....so...don't know really, I put a lot of stuff in fridge that really there is no need to, like jars with mint/tartar sauce/mayo/apple sauce...blah blah blah...stuff like that and also I keep tins of evap/tuna/anything meaty etc in fridge too and choc bikkys, sometimes I put my eyeliner pencil in there as well in the summertime....what I can't understand with the fridge manufacturers is they always put the salad/veg drawer at the bottom of the fridge yet you should always put un-cooked meat at the bottom.....??????? also my fridge is a big tall one yet I swear I could get more in my old one that was a lot smaller, very bad designs don't ya think.....will def be more careful next time I need one....
