Does anyone know when in the summer these creatures come out?

We had some last Wed/Thu, they were everywhere and was in the garden all evening, but have not seen them since, so finger's crossed they don't come back

Yes, it's usually this time of the year. I've been plagued with them in the past but haven't seen any so far this year. Hope it stays that way!

I haven't seen any so far but 2 mates both had loads intheir gardens on Sunday, flying about, and apparently they should be on their way out now as they only fly once (or so somebody said)

I think we had some last week, as there were hundreds of seagulls flying about, but I didn't actually see any ants funnily enough. This sort of weather is what brings them out though.

OK. I'll just keep my eye out then and prepare myself - don't like them at all.

A funny thing to do is get a bouncy rubber ball and bounce it on them.

We had hundreds and thousands of the horrible little things flying around garden and the whole street Sunday just gone (16th July)
