I have a large walk-in shower which is stood on a plywood plynth to raise it up enough for the waste pipes. You can see underneath onto the wood/pipes etc via a trap door in the shower, and I regularly check through this for leaks. I was having a check yesterday and found a load of tiny, fast-moving bugs which I am told are psocids (aka booklice). I put down some powder and sprayed and today I can't see any, but I am all for ripping out the shower and replacing the wood as I think they are attracted to it. It is unfinished and probably starting to develop moulds etc. I have a bit of a problem with bugs, esp tiny ones and am paranoid they will take over my whole apartment! Would any of you guys be unduly worried? Or maybe you have had these in the past? I believe they are also common in stored foods in the kitchen, and on the walls in brand new houses. Cheers for any thoughts. PS. The bathroom was only re-furbed 6 months ago!
Would sealing the wood be any help? Other people on here have had problems with the bugs you describe, but don't think any have had them in the shower! Keep the spray handy until someone comes up with an answer for you, good luck.
yeah sealing would work, trouble is you can only get to some of the wood around the trapdoor - if you can imagine a walk in shower, the trapdoor is on the shower side but the wood is over the whole of the shower tray area. I have since checked and the bugs seem to have gone after I sprayed, however have decided to take no chances and have a prof pest man coming wed! Touch wood this will do the trick.
