Mr FB got 3 numbers on the Lottery on Saturday, he went to the local petrol station on Sunday to get his winnings & was told they had a £3 handling/admin charge so he only got £7! Eek Has anyone else heard of this? He's contacted Camelot and is waiting for them to e-mail or write back, if it is true they will lose a lot of customers!

I think they were taking Mr FB for a ride, he should have perhaps have gone somewhere else that don't put their own tax on another companies business.

We won't be going back to that petrol station, that's for sure! The cashier had already taken the ticket before coming out with all that garbage about a handling charge, we're still waiting to hear from Camelot.

I have never heard of this before. I thought a proportion of the £1 fee for buying the ticket went to the shop who sold it? Probably more than what gets donated to the charities!

Mad WELL THAT REALLY TAKES THE BISCUIT, DOESN'T IT?
thats crazy.
Premises which sell lottery tickets get 5p for each one they sell, but there's no way that ANYONE should take £3 from a winning ticket.
I sincerely HOPE Mr.FB took a good look at that assistant and preferably got his/her name. You make sure you keep receipts of anything you bought there that night while changing that ticket, cos thats your proof you were there. He/She I think may have been doing that off their own back and as such deserves IMMEDIATE dismissal. How absolutely disgraceful.

I'm glad you went to Camelot, and indeed if this is true, I also think you should take this up with the local press, and maybe if you feel inclined to, go for National Press.
Someone like The Sun etc., You only have to buy a copy of the paper you want to go to, and their contact addresses are found inside front/back covers.
I know we are only talking about £3 here, but in my mind, its the principle that counts, and I dont know how many people at your garage won 3 numbers that night or indeed since lottery started, imagine how much he/she is pocketing. Maybe no-one in the past has thought £3 was worth the fight...I wish it'd happened to me, I am definately the sort that would have my teeth into that one...Full on!!
IF theres any way u could find out whether the garage are involved without actually asking them, do it. But dont let them know what you are doing and when you find out, get the press in UNANNOUNCED!!

I WISH YOU BOTH ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD! Valentine

Red Face Something simular happened to me,I wanted a new top card for my mobile so went to the shop where you can get them for free, the shopkeeper told me that they were now £10 each so i left it and came home and rang my mobile provider. They told me that this was indeed wrong and wanted the shops details.I then went back to the shop and told the shopkeeper about my phonecall to my service provider. He then gave me 6 top up cards and was very very friendly!

There are two types of top-up card, one type is free and you have to register it and then take it to a shop and they can swipe it and then charge you for how ever much you want put on, this type of card either comes with new phones or is also available in paper leaflets in shops. The other way costs £10 or whatever to buy and then when you register it the credit goes to your phone, after that the card you paid for then becomes a swipe card that you can take back to a shop to get money added to that goes straight to your phone.

Loopyloopytoons, thanks for your reply, we are STILL waiting to hear from Camelot, how useless are they? We tried getting in touch with the main branch of the petrol station but couldn't find any details (address/phone number etc) It was a Total station, we should have gone back & complained but were on our way out & it seems a bit late now to go back & complain. I may e-mail Camelot later on as it's been over a week now. Thanks again, and I just hope the petrpl station lose their licence! Mad

Sounds like a definate scam. Surely if it was ilegimate it would say on the back of the lottery ticket that they had started doing this. I can't believe the nerve of the ppl in the petrol station, how dare they. Hope it gets resolved asap Fatbird, let us know Smile
